18 Feb
Summary
- Retired detective assaulted a woman at a petrol station.
- The former officer was labelled a 'thug and a bully'.
- He was fined $2,500 but avoided a conviction.

A former Victoria Police detective, Warren Francis-Pester, 63, has been sentenced for assaulting a woman at a petrol station in Frankston South on April 27, 2025. The court labeled him a 'thug and a bully' for his actions during a road rage incident that began when his partner blocked the victim's car. CCTV footage showed Francis-Pester closing the woman's car door on her and repeatedly forcing his body against her. He was also accused of punching her and pulling her hair. The victim, described as being 'the size of a 12-year-old child' and weighing barely 50kg, stated the attack left her feeling constantly on edge and exacerbated a pre-existing back condition. Francis-Pester, who served for 39 years, pleaded guilty to assault and was fined $2,500. Magistrate Tony Burns called his behavior 'entitled' but did not record a conviction, citing Francis-Pester's guilty plea, prior good record, and service. This decision drew criticism from the victim, who questioned the message sent regarding violence against women.
