A fatal head-on collision on the A737 in Ayrshire has resulted in a former police officer admitting to dangerous driving. Andrew Hyams, 62, was driving his wife's aunt, Annie Sinclair, 88, when he failed to negotiate a bend and crashed into an oncoming van.
The crash tragically claimed the life of Ms. Sinclair, who was pronounced dead later that day. The van driver, Carl Egerton, sustained serious injuries, including a fractured sternum requiring surgery, and was unable to work for six months.
Hyams, a former Merseyside Police officer, admitted his guilt at the High Court in Glasgow. Sentencing has been deferred, while the court heard that Hyams was due to remarry his ex-wife the day after the fatal incident. His defense counsel stated Hyams is remorseful for his actions.
