Dementia Suspected in Ex-Cop's Alleged Wife Stabbing

A 92-year-old former Goodyear Police Department officer, John Biggs Jr., has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault following the alleged fatal stabbing of his wife, Jane Biggs. The incident occurred on August 24. The couple's son, traveling from out of state, discovered his mother deceased in the bedroom after his father made alarming statements over the phone. The son found the elder Biggs, who uses a wheelchair and hearing aids, in a recliner. He reportedly admitted to confronting his wife about stolen money, believing she had taken a significant sum from his account.

Authorities reported that Jane Biggs sustained three to four stab wounds to the neck and defensive injuries. Her husband allegedly became enraged when she denied taking the money. Following the attack, John Biggs Jr. reportedly attempted suicide by taking pills before falling asleep. His defense attorney later stated that the suspect is believed to be experiencing dementia and exhibited unusual behavior, including difficulty with his hearing aids during a recent bond hearing. His bond has been set at $1 million, with a subsequent court date scheduled for September 4.
