Jonathan Matos Morales, an 18-year-old former minor league catcher for the Atlanta Braves, has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. The incident occurred early Monday on Interstate 75 in Manatee County, Florida. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Morales was driving a Ford Mustang when he changed lanes and collided with a Chevy Trailblazer.
The impact propelled the Trailblazer into a semi-tractor-trailer, causing the truck to overturn and killing the 34-year-old driver. Morales reportedly stopped briefly before continuing to drive. The driver of the Trailblazer sustained minor injuries. Morales was booked into Manatee County Jail on Monday and released Tuesday on a $100,000 bond. The Braves organization confirmed they were aware of the incident and have released Morales.
