23 Feb
Summary
- Former block chief convicted for 2016 murder over village election rivalry.
- Three individuals found guilty of criminal conspiracy and murder.
- Sentencing for the convicted trio is scheduled for February 24.

In Ambedkar Nagar, a local court has convicted former Katehari block pramukh Ajay Pratap Singh, known as Ajay Sipahi, and two associates for the 2016 murder of Mansharam. The verdict, delivered by the additional district and sessions judge, found Singh, Mulayam Yadav, and Ajay Kumar Yadav guilty of criminal conspiracy and murder. They have been taken into judicial custody, with sentencing expected on February 24. An additional accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The fatal incident occurred on March 23, 2016, in Loknathpur village. Mansharam was lured from his home and later found deceased the following morning near the Bhevapar minor canal, having sustained a gunshot wound. Investigations linked the murder to political enmity from the 2015 gram pradhan elections, where Mulayam Yadav allegedly blamed Mansharam for his electoral defeat.
