- The scheme involved securing over $19.8 million in loans.

Luther Davis, a former member of Alabama's 2009 national championship football team, is expected to plead guilty to federal fraud charges. These charges stem from an alleged scheme to impersonate NFL players and secure millions of dollars in loans.
The indictment, filed in Atlanta on March 19, details conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Court documents state Davis and a partner, CJ Evins, targeted multiple lenders, including Aliya Sports and All Pro Capital Funding.
Investigators allege Davis and Evins fraudulently obtained nearly $20 million by impersonating current and former NFL athletes. The scheme reportedly ran from May 2023 through October 2024, involving disguises and fake IDs for virtual loan closings.
Davis, who played defensive line for Alabama from 2007-2010, is accused of using wigs, makeup, and even a head covering to impersonate players like Michael Penix Jr. The funds were sought under the guise of multi-million dollar loan requests from these athletes.
