- Shaheen left family in 2012 to move abroad, had no contact with children since
- Ex-husband claims Shaheen was a loving mother deeply attached to her family

According to the article, the ex-husband of terror accused Dr. Shaheen Shahid, also a doctor, has come forward to dispute the allegations against her. Dr. Zafar Hayat, an ophthalmologist in Kanpur, says he and Shaheen had an arranged marriage in November 2003, and he never had any inkling that she could be involved in such activities.
Hayat recalls that Shaheen was not religious and never wore a burqa, except during their wedding rituals. He states that Shaheen was deeply attached to her family and children, loved them immensely, and took care of their studies. However, one day in 2012, Shaheen suddenly left the family, and they got divorced that year. Since then, Hayat says there has been no contact between them, and Shaheen made no effort to contact her children, who now live with him.
The Kanpur police commissioner has confirmed that they have spoken to Hayat and his children about Shaheen, and the information will be shared with the investigating agencies. The authorities are also probing whether Shaheen was in touch with any of her old contacts in Kanpur.
