Hero Officer's Final Ride Honored

Essex Police Officer Mathew Parker, known affectionately as Mat, tragically died on November 19 while responding to an emergency call on the A12 near Ingatestone. The father-of-two, who joined Essex Police in 2010 and served in West Essex, was a passionate motorcyclist and a member of the Iron Order motorcycle club. His career included service with the Loughton Local Policing Team and most recently the Chigwell Roads Policing Team.

On December 15, PC Parker received a full ceremonial policing funeral, a profound tribute to his service and sacrifice. His final journey commenced from his home in Loughton, passing by his favorite pub, his policing base at Chigwell, Loughton Fire Station, and Loughton Police Station, where colleagues and firefighters lined up to show their respect. Emergency service vehicles and multiple biking clubs, including the Blue Knights and Iron Order, joined the procession.

Colleagues from Essex Police and forces nationwide, alongside members of the biker community, escorted PC Parker to Parndon Wood Cemetery & Crematorium. Chief Constable BJ Harrington expressed gratitude for the support shown by the public and praised Parker's dedication, stating officers willingly face danger to protect others. His sacrifice in responding to an emergency call to help someone he never met was highlighted, with a final send-off to "ride free."
