Empire State Building Banner Sparks Peace Message
1 Jul
Summary
- Two individuals scaled the Empire State Building antenna.
- A banner with a peace quote was unfurled.
- The quote is a paraphrase of William Gladstone.
Two individuals, a man and a woman dressed in dark clothing, ascended the antenna of the Empire State Building on Wednesday. They unfurled a banner near the structure's peak, displaying the message: "when the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace." The woman was observed wearing a black cat mask.
The prominent message on the banner is a recognizable paraphrase of a quote frequently attributed to guitarist Jimi Hendrix. However, historical records indicate the original statement was made by William Gladstone, a 19th-century British Prime Minister. The event concluded without further incident.
