An elderly woman, 85, became the victim of a savage hammer attack in the parking lot of the Olathe Pointe Shopping Center near a Whole Foods Market. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a customer heard a scream and discovered a man assaulting the woman with a hammer.
The Good Samaritan intervened, placing himself between the victim and the attacker. Other bystanders also assisted in trying to defend the woman. Police and first responders found the victim with significant injuries, including a large cut on her skull and nose. She underwent surgery for facial fractures and was admitted to intensive care.
Christopher Adam Brewer, 50, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with felony aggravated battery. Authorities have stated that the victim and attacker did not know each other, and the motive for the violent assault remains unclear. Brewer is being held on a $35,000 bond.
