Elderly Mother Killed by Son in Violent Family Dispute

On Saturday night, a 65-year-old woman named Dhanalakshmi was allegedly murdered by her eldest son, Chellappan, in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. Dhanalakshmi lived on Murugan Koil Street and had two sons, Chellappan (50) and Duraisamy (45).

Several years ago, the brothers had built a house together, but a dispute over the property later arose between them. Duraisamy lived in a small house with a cement sheet roof, while Dhanalakshmi lived nearby in a thatched hut. Both brothers also raised goats.

The electricity supply for Dhanalakshmi's and Duraisamy's homes was reportedly drawn from Chellappan's house. Chellappan would often cut the power supply, leading to frequent altercations between the brothers.

On the night of the incident, the conflict escalated when Chellappan reportedly dumped cow dung in the area where Duraisamy lived. When confronted by Duraisamy, Chellappan attacked him with sticks and other weapons. Dhanalakshmi tried to intervene, but in a fit of rage, Chellappan took a knife used for slaughtering goats and attacked her. Dhanalakshmi collapsed in a pool of blood.

Neighbors rushed to the spot and immediately shifted the unconscious Dhanalakshmi to Kancheepuram General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Ponneri Karai police have registered a case and arrested Chellappan. Further investigation is ongoing.
