Elderly Man Fatally Shot in Georgia Walmart Parking Lot

An 81-year-old man, identified as James Edward McDaniel, tragically lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet in a Gainesville, Georgia Walmart parking lot. The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, October 14th, as McDaniel was reportedly walking in the parking lot of the store located approximately 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. Gunfire erupted nearby, and investigators believe McDaniel was an innocent bystander. He was found in critical condition upon the arrival of authorities and tragically died en route to the hospital. The Gainesville Police Department stated that no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. Police Chief Jay Parrish expressed sorrow for the victim's family, describing McDaniel as a man simply trying to go about his day. McDaniel was a devoted family man, leaving behind his wife, Gloria, who has dementia, along with four children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Law enforcement is appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the perpetrator responsible for this senseless act of violence.
