Editing Assistant Admits to Selling Stolen Film Data for Profit

On October 12, 2025, a production manager working at a Hindi filmmaker's office in Mumbai registered a police complaint against two other employees for misappropriating a hard disc containing raw details of films and two mobile phones. According to the FIR, the filmmaker had informed the complainant in March 2025 about the missing hard disc, and he suspected the manager, Rakesh.

The complainant then started closely monitoring the office staff and found that an editing assistant, Jitendra, who reported to Rakesh, was in charge of all the hard discs. On September 13, two office staffers confessed to selling the hard discs at the behest of Rakesh, with each hard disc sold for ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 to one Ashok. Half of the sale proceeds were given to Rakesh.

Rakesh was questioned on September 14 and admitted to misappropriating 40 hard discs between March and September and getting them sold off. Jitendra was asked to get back all the hard discs, but he switched off his phone and was not reachable from September 19. The misappropriated goods are worth ₹4.8 lakh, according to the police.
