Former Ecuador international Christian Lara, known as 'Diablito', was arrested on suspicion of involvement in an armed robbery attempt. The incident occurred at a technology store named Tecnomega in the La Magdalena neighborhood of Quito. Approximately six individuals reportedly entered the store with firearms, aiming to commit a robbery, but police intervention thwarted the crime.
Lara was intercepted in a getaway car outside the store and was seen being placed in handcuffs by officers. Police confirmed the arrest of four suspects, including Lara, and seized three firearms, including a homemade rifle, along with electronic items. While three other individuals were identified, Lara is reportedly the only one among the four detainees without a prior criminal record.
Lara, who represented Ecuador in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, spent much of his career with Club Deportivo El Nacional and also played internationally. He was considered one of Ecuador's most promising players and made his national team debut in 2001. Prosecutors will now decide whether to press charges against those arrested.
