In a deeply disturbing incident, a 12-year-old boy and his father have been found dead in Dublin, with authorities treating the case as a murder-suicide. The young boy, Oisin O'Reilly, was discovered in a home on Lindisfarne Grove, Clondalkin, on Thursday morning. Hours later, his father, Wayne O'Reilly, 48, was found deceased at a separate location in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot.
Gardaí are investigating the sequence of events, which they believe involved the father fleeing the Clondalkin residence after his son's death before taking his own life. The boy is suspected to have died from asphyxiation, pending post-mortem examinations. This grim discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, with neighbours and local representatives expressing profound grief and disbelief.
The case also recalls a prior incident where both father and son were reported missing on October 17 of the previous year, triggering a nationwide alert before they were found safe the next day. Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, confirmed they were aware of the family but stated the boy was not in state care. Investigations are ongoing, with a Senior Investigating Officer appointed.
