On October 6, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in the Gopalasamudram village of Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. A 38-year-old man, S Vinoth Kumar, surrendered to the police after brutally murdering his three young children in an inebriated state.
Vinoth Kumar, who worked as a waiter at a hotel near Madukkur, had been devastated after his wife Nithya, 35, eloped with another man from Mannargudi around six months ago, leaving him and their three children - daughters Oviya, 12, and Keerthi, 8, and son Eeswaran, 5 - behind. The incident had sent Vinoth Kumar into a downward spiral, and he had started drinking heavily since then.
On the fateful evening of October 6th, Vinoth Kumar returned home drunk around 7 pm. Seeing his children, he flew into a rage, took a billhook, and hacked them to death. After committing the horrific crime, he went to the Madukkur police station and surrendered.
