- A sub-inspector was apprehended for drunk driving on New Year's Eve.
- The officer nearly hit several policemen and was briefly on a car bonnet.
- Multiple liquor bottles were discovered in the vehicle after apprehension.

In a startling incident early on Thursday, January 1st, 2026, a sub-inspector, Ashutosh Tripathi, allegedly drove his car through a busy Lucknow crossing while intoxicated. The drama escalated when Tripathi refused to stop for on-duty policemen, speeding up and narrowly missing officers before briefly being dragged on the car's bonnet. The incident, captured on video, quickly gained traction on social media.
Upon being stopped, Tripathi, who was reportedly on leave, displayed erratic behavior and disrespect towards senior officers, including DCP Kamlesh Dixit. He was taken to Hazratganj kotwali, where he initially resisted handing over his car keys. A search of the vehicle revealed 5-6 bottles of liquor, confirming suspicions of severe intoxication.
A medical examination subsequently confirmed alcohol consumption. Tripathi was formally charged for drunk driving. Authorities stated that the officer had cited his wife's illness as the reason for his leave, adding another layer to the developing story.
