On July 26, 2026, at approximately three in the morning, officers in Hillsborough County were working a traffic fatality investigation. Their work was interrupted when a blue KIA, driven by 29-year-old Leela Pidaleti, approached the scene on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and North 43rd Street.
Instead of turning around, Pidaleti drove onto the sidewalk to maneuver around the vehicles blocking the road. He then proceeded to drive directly into the active crime scene. Officers were able to quickly box in the vehicle and apprehend the driver.
During questioning, Pidaleti initially stated he had not been drinking. However, he quickly contradicted himself, admitting they had been to a club and consumed drinks. This led officers to conduct a field sobriety test, which he subsequently failed.
Despite failing the test, Pidaleti expressed confusion, asking if he could try again, a request that amused online viewers. Charges for driving under the influence were filed, and his license is expected to be suspended.
