A 39-year-old driver, Michael Ronner, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court for causing the death of his 20-year-old passenger, Tyler Carley. The fatal incident took place on December 5, 2023, along the A4174 in Mangotsfield, when the scaffolding lorry Ronner was driving overturned following a collision with the central reservation. Tyler Carley tragically died at the scene from severe injuries. Ronner received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and an 18-month driving disqualification. He was also ordered to pay £784 in costs. Authorities noted that Ronner's lack of concentration and failure to ensure passenger safety directly led to the tragedy. The court also highlighted Ronner's delay in entering a guilty plea, which caused additional distress to the victim's family. As part of his sentence, Ronner must also complete an alcohol treatment program, a rehabilitation activity, and 150 hours of unpaid work.
