Driver Kills Two After Cyclist Death Release
10 Jan
Summary
- Woman released after cyclist death allegedly caused second fatal crash.
- Two died after alleged driver ran a red light in Long Beach.
- Driver pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in cyclist death.

Ahkeyajahnique Owens, 24, was released by authorities in California on October 6, despite facing charges for reckless driving. This followed an incident where she allegedly struck cyclist Raul Augustin Gallopa, who later died from his injuries. Owens was permitted to drive while her case was pending.
However, on January 4, Owens was allegedly speeding in her BMW in Long Beach. She is accused of running a red light, colliding with another vehicle and causing it to flip. Two occupants of that vehicle, Bobbi Smith, 24, and Gilberto Lopez, 21, were ejected and tragically died at the scene.
Owens reportedly fled the scene of the second crash but surrendered to police two days later. This led to her arrest on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter related to the cyclist's death. On January 7, she pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. She is currently held on $200,000 bail for the second incident, with authorities planning to present that case next week.
