- Nitrous oxide use preceded the 'revenge' attack.
- DJ's career dreams shattered by severe injuries.

Mohammed Suffi, 23, has been sentenced to 11-and-a-half years in prison for a horrifying hit-and-run incident outside The Tunnel Club in Birmingham. The event occurred in October 2024 during Freshers Week. Suffi, who had consumed nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, deliberately drove his Mercedes into a group of people. This occurred after he and three friends were ejected from the club following a confrontation.
Six individuals were struck by the vehicle, including DJ Caliston Calistus, whose body was dragged beneath the car. Mr. Calistus suffered severe fractures and collapsed lungs, shattering his dream of becoming an international DJ. During the incident, Suffi’s friends, Mustafa Gohari, Armaan Abid, and Daanyal Hussain, also faced charges for affray. They each received an 11-month suspended sentence and were ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
Suffi was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving. He was also banned from driving for 10 years and seven months. The court heard that the incident was a revenge attack following a dispute inside the club. Suffi attempted to flee to Dubai after the incident, but was apprehended.
Victim Caliston Calistus described the profound impact of the injuries, including constant pain, reduced mobility, and psychological trauma. He stated that his passion for DJing, which began at age 16, was not just a job but his dream and identity. The judge emphasized the severity of Suffi's actions, noting the potential for fatalities had the car’s path been different.
