Dental Patients Race Clock for Unfinished Work
25 Feb
Summary
- Patients must file claims by March 12, 2026, for unfinished dental work.
- Over 150 creditors have already filed claims against the dentist's estate.
- One patient paid $21,000, only half completed, then paid $7,500 to finish.

Former patients of the late Dr. Carl Medgaus have until March 12, 2026, to file claims for unfinished dental work. Hundreds of individuals contacted investigators after the Pittsburgh-area dentist's sudden death in April 2025, reporting thousands of dollars paid for incomplete or partially finished procedures.
The path to potential reimbursement now lies in filing a creditor claim against Medgaus' estate. Public records indicate that more than 150 creditors have already submitted claims to the Westmoreland County Register of Wills. The estate's attorney stated that all documentation is being gathered for evaluation, with claims to be reviewed and prioritized under Pennsylvania law.
One former patient, Mark Dzura, paid $21,000 for a full-mouth dental implant solution, of which only about half was completed before the dentist's passing. Dzura later incurred approximately $7,500 in additional costs to have the work finished by another dentist. Despite the financial setback, Dzura expressed positive sentiments about Dr. Medgaus' character.
