5 Sep
Summary
- Shipman murdered 15 female patients with lethal drug doses.
- A forged will led to the discovery of his crimes.
- His killing spree is believed to be over 100 victims.

Dr. Harold Shipman, once a respected physician in Hyde, Cheshire, was revealed to be a prolific serial killer. He was convicted in January 2000 for the murders of 15 female patients, administering lethal doses of morphine or heroin between 1995 and 1998. His crimes shocked the community that had placed implicit trust in him.
The investigation was triggered by the suspicious death of 81-year-old Kathleen Grundy in June 1998. A will surfaced, bequeathing her £640,000 estate to Shipman, with forged witness signatures. This discovery prompted an exhumation and revealed the lethal morphine dose.
Further investigations into other patients of Shipman uncovered similar patterns of death by lethal injection. The true scale of his actions is suspected to be far greater, with indications that he may have killed over 100 people. Shipman received a life sentence without parole and died by suicide in prison on January 13, 2004.
