Dowry Cruelty: Woman Found Dead at In-Laws

A 28-year-old woman was found deceased, hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-laws' residence in Giaspura on Saturday. The Sahnewal police have initiated legal proceedings.

Following a complaint by the woman's father from Uttar Pradesh, a case of dowry death has been registered against her husband and mother-in-law, Indravati Devi. The father alleged that his daughter faced continuous harassment and taunts for insufficient dowry shortly after her marriage on March 6, 2025.

According to the complaint, the persistent mental and physical harassment by the accused drove the woman to extreme stress. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita but are yet to be apprehended.
