Muzaffarpur Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the double murder of retired banker Ashok Kunwar, 75, and his wife Neelam Devi, 70. The couple was found deceased in their Rambagh Chaudi residence on July 20, with authorities noting their throats had been slit. The investigation has led to the arrest of a rickshaw puller, Randhir Kumar, and a SIM card seller, Rakesh Kumar Gupta, for their alleged involvement in facilitating the crime through a fraudulently obtained SIM card.
Authorities believe two young men who had taken a room on rent in the neighborhood carried out the murders two days after securing the accommodation. The victims were reportedly killed in extreme anger, with Mr. Kunwar also being stabbed repeatedly after death. While no valuables appear to be missing, the perpetrators took all the keys and the victims' cell phones. The motive behind the killings is still under investigation, as family members have not reported any known enmities or significant property disputes. The bank accounts of the deceased have also not shown any major recent transactions.
