18 Oct
Summary
- Accused in double murder of brothers hacked to death at bull event.
- Deceased was recently released on bail in the 2024 murder case.
- Suspected retaliation for brothers' killings; police investigating.
A man accused of murdering two brothers in 2024 was himself killed at a bull-taming event in Sivaganga district on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Madan, also known as 'Sullan' Madan, had recently been granted bail in connection with the double murder that occurred on June 30, 2024. The incident took place in Melamangalam, where Madan was watching a manjuvirattu.
A group armed with sickles and other weapons reportedly ambushed Madan. He attempted to flee but was pursued into a sugarcane field and fatally attacked. Investigators believe this act was a reprisal for the 2024 murders of Jayasurya and Subash. Madan and his associates were accused of confronting the brothers over a bull at a previous event, leading to a fatal altercation later that night.
Police had previously arrested seven suspects in the brothers' murders, alleging that the crime was planned via Instagram. Madan and three co-accused had notably surrendered in court disguised as lawyers in July 2024. He and three others were subsequently detained under the Goondas Act in September 2024. Authorities have registered a case regarding Sunday's killing and are actively searching for the perpetrators.
