11 May
Summary
- A doorman was convicted of killing a young man with fatal head injuries.
- The victim suffered further injuries from a passing car after the assault.
- The doorman claimed self-defense but the jury rejected his account.

A pub doorman, Dylan Maxwell, 28, has been found guilty of manslaughter for killing 25-year-old Luke Thompson. The fatal incident occurred on Front Street in Pontefract town centre in the early hours of November 19, 2023.
Maxwell, who had finished his shift as a door supervisor, approached Thompson and repeatedly punched him, causing severe head injuries that led to his death. Thompson was also struck by a passing car after the assault, sustaining broken bones, though these injuries did not contribute to his passing.
Maxwell claimed he acted in self-defense, stating he pre-empted an assault. However, a jury at Leeds Crown Court rejected his testimony and delivered a guilty verdict. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled for sentencing in June.
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle commented that Maxwell, as trained door staff, should have de-escalated the situation instead of resorting to violence. His thoughts were with Luke Thompson's loved ones.
