Man Denies Owning 80 Dogs Found in Dire Conditions
28 Sep
Summary
- Over 80 dogs discovered in squalid conditions at a Doncaster farm.
- Police and RSPCA described the scene as the worst they had ever encountered.
- The owner denies responsibility, while his wife and son admitted offenses.
At Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Monday, David Parkes, 61, denied three counts of animal welfare offenses concerning 86 animals discovered in extremely poor conditions. The animals, including 80 Springer Spaniel-type dogs, two adult Patterdale Terriers, two Patterdale Terrier pups, and two cats, were removed from Galley Hill Farm Cottage in Tickhill, Doncaster, between April 17 and 18, 2025.
South Yorkshire Police and RSPCA officers described the conditions as the worst they had encountered in their careers. Parkes argued he did not own or have responsibility for the dogs. His wife, Delphine Parkes, 60, and their son, Sam Parkes, 28, have already pleaded guilty to the same offenses earlier this year.
