Domestic Violence Tragedy: Lakshmi Vaghela Dies by Suicide After Years of Torment

On October 17, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Jodhpur village of Tankara taluka, where 32-year-old Lakshmi Vaghela allegedly consumed poison at her in-laws' residence. Lakshmi was immediately rushed to the government hospital in Tankara, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Following Lakshmi's death, her father, Deva Chadmiya (62), filed a complaint against her husband, Ramesh Vaghela, at the Tankara police station. According to the FIR, Lakshmi and Ramesh had been married for around ten years and had a daughter together. However, Chadmiya alleged that Ramesh, a casual laborer, had been physically and mentally harassing his wife for the past two years and was addicted to alcohol.
On the day of the incident, Chadmiya received a call from a relative, Mavji Vaghela, informing him that Lakshmi had consumed poison. Her in-laws reportedly confirmed the incident and said she was first taken to the Vihot Mata Temple in Palas village of Wankaner taluka for help. As her condition worsened, she was brought home and later shifted to the Tankara government hospital, where she tragically passed away on October 18, 2025.
The police have since booked Ramesh Vaghela under Sections 108 and 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with Lakshmi's death.
