Summary
- Abuser jailed for over three years for controlling behaviour.
- Victim suffered devastating mental health impacts.
- Offender denied responsibility despite conviction.

Kern Rayne, a 40-year-old man from Newcastle, has been sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment for domestic abuse. He was convicted of using coercive and controlling behaviour against his partner over a period spanning from January 2023 to September 2025.
The court heard that Rayne's actions led to "devastating" mental health issues for the victim, who reported still suffering daily effects of the abuse. Judge Edward Bindloss cited Rayne's "cocaine-fuelled paranoia" and "significant sexual jealousy" as contributing factors.
Despite his defense's attempt to portray the relationship as equally toxic, the judge rejected this claim, finding Rayne to be the clear aggressor. The victim expressed her lasting pain, stating, "He told the court he could not remember what happened, I will never forget what he did to me."
