Dog Breeder Gets Life Ban After Neglect
13 Aug
Summary
- Two Rottweilers died from starvation and dehydration.
- Breeder jailed for 20 months for animal cruelty.
- Banned from owning animals for life.

Sandra Brumby, a former dog breeder and groomer, has received a lifetime ban on owning animals and a 20-month jail sentence for severe animal cruelty. The court heard how her Rottweilers, Coco and Dakota, were found in a terrible state, clearly emaciated due to lack of food and water. Two other deceased dogs were discovered in her kitchen.
Brumby's neglect was discovered by her cousin, who found the dogs in a squalid environment. Despite a significant amount of dog food being present, the animals had no access to it or to water. Judge Richard Woolfall highlighted Brumby's 'deliberate disregard for the welfare of an animal,' noting that the neglect demonstrated a clear cruelty.
Brumby, who had no prior convictions but had cautions for assault and criminal damage, admitted to two offenses of causing unnecessary suffering. Her defense lawyer acknowledged the 'abject neglect' and stated her alcohol intake had increased significantly. The disqualification from owning animals is absolute and cannot be appealed for at least 15 years.
