Summary
- Criminal cases filed against doctors and medical staff in Daltonganj.
- IMA expresses distress over actions allegedly violating Clinical Establishments Act.
- Doctors fear admitting critical patients due to legal repercussions.
The Palamu chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed dismay over criminal cases registered against four doctors and other medical staff in Daltonganj within a 72-hour period. These cases stem from alleged violations of the Clinical Establishments Act.
Senior IMA member Dr. R.P. Sinha voiced concerns that such actions could deter doctors in private facilities from admitting or treating seriously ill patients, potentially leading to increased referrals to higher centers. He noted a widening trust deficit between patients and doctors.
IMA Palamu secretary Dr. Gaurav Vishal alleged that the medical fraternity is being misrepresented on social media. He cited an instance where a stillbirth was falsely reported as a newborn death, wrongly attributed to a nursing home, while the doctor had actually aided in saving the mother during a threatened abortion.
The IMA has affirmed its complete solidarity with the affected doctors, emphasizing their distress at the current situation. The organization calls for serious reflection from all healthcare stakeholders.
