Doctor Admits 'Could Have Killed Someone' After DUI Crash

Dr. Kate Eve, a qualified GP since 2010, has been suspended for six months following a serious incident in July 2024. She admitted to drinking a significant amount of vodka before driving a short distance to a school, where she subsequently crashed into parked cars. At the time of the arrest, her breath alcohol level was 151 micrograms per 100 milliliters, exceeding the legal limit by over four times.

Dr. Eve was handed a suspended eight-week prison sentence for the offense. She was also disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work. During a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing, she expressed deep remorse, stating that an apology was insufficient and she constantly reflects on the potential harm she could have caused.

The tribunal emphasized the calculated risk Dr. Eve took, which endangered herself, a child passenger, and the public. Considering the medium level of risk to public protection and the seriousness of her conviction, the tribunal deemed an immediate suspension necessary to safeguard public well-being and maintain confidence in the medical profession.
