Doctor Loses Lakhs in Instagram Investment Scam

A Kolkata-based doctor recently became the victim of a sophisticated investment scam, losing a staggering Rs 33.7 lakh. The elaborate fraud was orchestrated through the social media platform Instagram, where an individual posing as a promising investment adviser contacted the doctor.

The accused convinced the doctor to invest a substantial sum in a dubious website, www.wynnpalacetainp.com, by promising lucrative returns. Between October 20 and October 29, the doctor transferred the money in several installments. These funds were reportedly directed to various accounts, including those listed under a tech firm, Aditya Sunil Jadhav, Rekha Enterprises, and Devanshi Traders.

Upon realizing that the promised returns were not forthcoming, the doctor understood he had been defrauded and promptly filed a complaint with the police. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS, including cheating and criminal conspiracy, and have initiated an investigation to apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen funds. Kolkata Police has also issued a comprehensive 15-point guideline for citizens to verify financial agents' credentials.
