A surgical resident, Hassan-James Abbas, has been indicted on multiple felony charges for allegedly administering abortion pills to his pregnant girlfriend without her consent. The incident occurred on December 7, 2024, when Abbas reportedly crushed mifepristone and misoprostol and attempted to force them into the sleeping woman's mouth. He had ordered the drugs using his estranged wife's identity.
Following the accusation, the State Medical Board of Ohio suspended Abbas's medical license, deeming his continued practice a danger to the public. The University of Toledo has placed him on administrative leave. A hearing to address the suspension is scheduled for May 14-15, 2026.
The woman reportedly fled the situation and called 911, later confirming at a hospital that the medication had terminated her pregnancy. Abbas's attorney has been contacted for comment regarding the serious allegations.
