A man from China's Zhejiang province has initiated divorce proceedings after a marriage lasting just nine days. The union was arranged through a matchmaking service, with the couple's initial interaction being a five-minute video call.
Despite never meeting in person or her parents, the 32-year-old man, surnamed Gu, proceeded with the marriage. His family paid a total of 265,000 yuan, including a 100,000 yuan bride price and a 160,000 yuan matchmaking fee.
Soon after the wedding, Gu discovered his new wife possessed 100,000 yuan in debt, which she attributed to an ex-boyfriend. She also failed to disclose elevated liver enzymes and a need for weight loss.
Gu is now suing the matchmaking center for a refund and seeking a divorce. The woman, however, has counter-sued, claiming emotional distress and demanding compensation.
