Dine-and-Dasher Plants Hair in Food for Free Meal

Summary
- Man appeared to place hair from his head into his meal.
- Restaurant owner recognized suspect from a similar incident.
- Two restaurants nationwide targeted by this scam.

A brazen dine-and-dash scam targeting restaurants has been exposed, with CCTV footage showing a man plucking hair from his head and placing it into his food.
The incident occurred last July at The Clover Club in Newquay, Cornwall, where two men attempted to avoid paying a £70 bill. Owner Charlie Hester recognized the diners from a similar stunt, raising fears that the same duo is operating nationwide.
This tactic mirrors a recent event at The Dial in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, where two men allegedly sprinkled hair onto their steak to escape a £165 bill earlier this month. The Clover Club owner noted the striking similarity in the actions, suggesting a premeditated plan.
Both restaurant owners expressed concern for the hospitality industry, which is already facing significant challenges. They hope that the shared CCTV footage will lead to the identification of the individuals responsible and serve as a warning to other independent businesses.
