Diddy's $1M Hitman Allegation Resurfaces

The murder trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis has brought renewed attention to allegations that Sean "Diddy" Combs offered $1 million to have Tupac Shakur killed in 1996. Davis, accused of orchestrating Shakur's death, claims Combs wanted Shakur and Suge Knight eliminated. Legal commentator Neama Rahmani explains that Nevada law permits prosecution for hiring a hitman, even if Combs was not present at the crime scene.

These allegations surfaced during a 2008 proffer interview with law enforcement, stemming from a wider federal investigation into hip-hop rivalries and potential financing through narcotics. Detectives were exploring connections between Combs' Bad Boy Records and Knight's Death Row Records. Davis, initially a person of interest in the murder of The Notorious B.I.G., later became a confidential informant.

Despite Davis's claims, which he now reportedly retracts, proving the 30-year-old allegations would require independent evidence corroborating his admissions and proof of payment. Combs, currently serving a 50-month federal sentence for prostitution-related charges, has consistently denied involvement in Shakur's murder. Prosecutors have not indicated they will pursue charges against Combs based on Davis's trial, and he is not listed as a witness.

Shakur was fatally shot on September 7, 1996, after an altercation involving Orlando Anderson. Six months later, The Notorious B.I.G. was murdered in Los Angeles. Davis's trial is expected to feature testimony from individuals associated with both the Death Row and Bad Boy labels.
