Summary

- Attack involved iron bars and occurred five years ago.
- Motive cited as violent sporting jealousy over teammate.

Former Paris Saint-Germain player Aminata Diallo is set to face trial at the Versailles Criminal Court, approximately five years after an assault on her then-teammate, Kheira Hamraoui. Diallo has been formally charged with complicity in aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy. An investigating judge has determined there is sufficient evidence to proceed, concluding that Diallo allegedly instigated the attack on Hamraoui.
The incident occurred on November 4, 2021, as Diallo and Hamraoui were driving home from a team dinner. In Chatou, west of Paris, assailants reportedly stopped their vehicle. One attacker allegedly hit Hamraoui with an iron bar, targeting her legs, while another restrained Diallo.
Diallo was initially released without charge, but a year later, in September 2022, she and five men were arrested and charged. Police reports, translated by The Athletic, suggest the motive behind the alleged instigation was "violent sporting jealousy." Diallo's lawyer has called the decision "disgraceful" and expressed determination to prove her innocence, citing alleged investigator misconduct.
Representatives for Kheira Hamraoui described the decision as a "decisive step" towards justice, highlighting the grueling years of personal, professional, and media consequences Hamraoui has endured since the attack. Five men involved in the incident, along with a former sports advisor, will also face court on charges related to illegally acting as a sports agent.
