Delhi Police recently concluded a significant two-day operation, codenamed Operation CyHawk, aimed at combating cybercrime. This extensive crackdown saw over 4,400 individuals detained for questioning, with 877 subsequently arrested or bound down. The operation was conducted in close coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), emphasizing a proactive approach to disrupt cyber fraud networks.
The initiative specifically targeted illegal call centres, mule accounts, and cash-withdrawal agents responsible for various online scams. Investigators successfully traced financial trails amounting to over ₹1,000 crore, connecting them to organized cyber syndicates operating within Delhi. This led to the filing of 360 new FIRs and advancements in 160 ongoing cases.
During the operation, police linked over 3,700 complaints from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal to identified mule accounts and suspicious mobile numbers. The crackdown resulted in the shutdown of numerous illegal call centres involved in job frauds, investment scams, and impersonation schemes, recovering significant incriminating material.
