Delhi Police recently cracked down on two major illicit operations involving counterfeit and expired consumer products. In Khanjawala, a counterfeit toothpaste manufacturing unit was discovered, producing fake products of a reputable brand under unhygienic conditions. Thousands of filled and empty tubes, along with packaging materials, were seized.
The Crime Branch also unearthed a racket in Dwarka that repackaged and distributed expired food and beverage items. Products from well-known multinational brands, including soft drinks and biscuits, had their manufacturing and expiry dates forged. The accused procured expired goods, altered their dates, and repackaged them for sale.
Authorities arrested the alleged masterminds of both operations, Hari Om Mishra for the toothpaste racket and Kamal Mudgil, Shivam Singh, and Lokesh Kumar for the expired goods operation. Goods worth several lakhs, posing significant health risks due to their unhygienic production and expired nature, were confiscated. Samples were collected for verification by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
