A coordinated gang of five women has been arrested in connection with a jewelry theft at the New Delhi metro station. The victim reported the loss of gold bangles, earrings, and a mangalsutra after being targeted in a crowded entry gate area.
Authorities stated the gang, comprising members aged between 20 and 40, operated by identifying and isolating a target. Other members would then create a brief, distracting crowd, allowing for swift removal of jewelry. All five suspects reside in Anand Parbat.
Following the victim's complaint on April 4, police meticulously analyzed CCTV footage from the metro station and surrounding areas. This investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Lakshmi, Sardha, Soniya, Naina, and Priyanka. During interrogation, the women reportedly confessed to their modus operandi of targeting commuters in busy public spaces, particularly metro stations.
All stolen jewelry has been recovered by the police. Further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the gang's potential involvement in other similar theft cases.
