- Special audit flags over Rs 10 crore financial irregularities at Delhi Medical Council.
- Registrar Dr Girish Tyagi allegedly caused over Rs 5.57 crore loss in renewal fees.
- Audit also recommended recovery of over Rs 3.23 crore in benefits from Tyagi.

A special audit has revealed significant financial and administrative irregularities within the Delhi Medical Council (DMC), potentially costing the government exchequer over Rs 10 crore. The audit report, conducted by the Delhi Health department, specifically targets former Registrar Dr. Girish Tyagi.
Dr. Tyagi is alleged to have caused a loss exceeding Rs 5.57 crore between 2019 and 2025 by reducing doctors' renewal fees. The report further recommended the recovery of over Rs 3.23 crore in salary, allowances, and expenses paid to him.
The audit also highlighted concerns regarding the extension of Dr. Tyagi's service and enhancement of his retirement age without mandatory approvals. Despite his retirement age being 60 in November 2019, the DMC amended its rules to extend it to 65 and later granted him additional extensions, leading to substantial salary payments beyond his initial retirement.
Dr. Tyagi has refuted the audit's findings, labeling them as misleading and aimed at creating a false public perception. He stated that service extensions were approved by the 25-member Delhi Medical Council and that the matter is sub judice.
Further irregularities noted include financial improprieties related to staff regularization, medical insurance payments, and the purchase of costly gifts. The report also pointed to issues with maintaining stock records and service books.
