20 Jun
Summary
- Doctor arrested for allegedly bludgeoning and stabbing his domestic help to death.
- Accused confessed to the crime and weapons used have been recovered by police.
- Family alleges police hurried the cremation, denying them time with the body.

Dr. Manish Gupta, a dermatologist, was remanded to two days of police custody on Friday, June 19, 2026. He faces charges for the murder of Mina Halder, his 58-year-old domestic help of 16 years. Gupta was arrested from his East of Kailash residence.
Police sought custody to investigate potential accomplices and uncover further facts about the crime. The defense argued that the police had seized all evidence and that Gupta was suffering from depression. The court granted the police's request for custody.
Gupta allegedly confessed to attacking Halder with a bat and then stabbing her with a knife. The weapons have been recovered. According to the medico-legal report, Halder sustained stab wounds to her neck, a head laceration, and abrasions. Her body was handed over to her family for cremation after an autopsy, the results of which are pending.
The victim's family claimed the police rushed the cremation, preventing them from keeping the body at home. Police denied this allegation. A neighbor reported seeing Gupta attacking Halder, and Gupta himself allegedly admitted to the act and showed the body to a neighbor, who then called the police. The neighbor described Gupta as generally kind and previously unaware of any mental health issues.
