According to preliminary reports, the constable, Ashish Pawar, brought Singh to Yatharth Hospital. Pawar, who is married but reportedly seeking divorce, had been in a relationship with Singh for five years and they had been living together for three months. The argument reportedly escalated at a party when Pawar received a call from his wife, leading to a dispute with Singh.

Singh allegedly retreated to her flat and shot herself with Pawar's licensed pistol. Pawar then transported her to the hospital and attempted to flee but was apprehended by police through technical surveillance.
