A gang of three men has been arrested for operating a scam that involved luring passengers onto a private bus with cheap fares, only to assault and rob them on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The accused targeted commuters near Anand Vihar Railway Station and the Inter-State Bus Terminal, promising flat fares regardless of distance.
Authorities intensified patrolling after receiving multiple tip-offs about the gang's activities. Police successfully intercepted the bus near Rajghat, apprehending the driver, identified as Yogesh (41), and his accomplices Arshad (46) and Premshankar alias Ajay (28), who served as conductors and helpers. The passengers onboard expressed their relief upon the bus's interception.
During the operation, police recovered ₹1,850 in cash that had been robbed from victims and seized the bus. An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including robbery and criminal intimidation. The gang abandoned victims in isolated locations after the robberies.
