On the night of October 2nd, 2025, a 30-year-old man named Shrimanth Gonaik was brutally killed by three individuals in Srinivas Saradagi village, on the outskirts of Kalaburagi, Karnataka. The three accused, Sudeep, Shivakumar, and Shrikanth, all residents of the same village, have surrendered to the Gulbarga University police on October 3rd.
According to the authorities, the murder was the result of an old rivalry between the victim and the accused. Shrimanth was drinking with his friends when one of the accused, Shrikanth, lured him to a secluded area near the agricultural land under the pretext of having more liquor. The three men then forced Shrimanth to consume more alcohol and killed him by throwing a large stone at his head, after first spraying chili powder in his eyes.
Shrimanth Gonaik had been released from jail just six months ago, where he had served a two-year sentence for a previous murder case involving Nagesh, the brother of one of the accused, Sudeep. At the time of his death, Shrimanth was employed as a driver at the GIMS hospital.
The Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner, Sharanappa SD, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kannika Sikrival, visited the crime scene late on October 2nd. The three accused are currently in judicial custody, and the police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
