Memphis Agents Seize Pound of Deadly Fluorofentanyl

Agents with the West Tennessee Drug Task Force successfully interdicted a significant quantity of dangerous narcotics during a special operation conducted on December 9th. The seizure included one pound of highly potent fluorofentanyl and eight pounds of methamphetamine, marking a critical success in combating illicit drug distribution.

Director Johnie Carter explained that fluorofentanyl is a synthetic derivative of fentanyl, approximately 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine. Its chemical structure allows it to cross the blood-brain barrier more rapidly and in greater quantities than fentanyl, significantly increasing its danger.

This potent drug poses a severe threat, often being covertly mixed with other substances, leading to unsuspecting users. While naloxone can reverse overdoses, it requires substantially more doses for fluorofentanyl compared to regular fentanyl, contributing to its high fatality rate. The operation was supported by Governor Lee's Violent Crime Initiative Fund.
