Summary

- Accused attempted to blame his six-year-old autistic son.
- Infant suffered severe, non-accidental injuries.

Demetrius Beatty, 40, is accused of fatally beating a two-month-old girl in Washington, D.C., allegedly due to jealousy. Prosecutors claim Beatty inflicted severe injuries on infant Khamyah Honesty, who later died. He is alleged to have attempted to blame his nonverbal, six-year-old autistic son for the baby's death.
The infant suffered extensive fractures to her head and face, injuries a forensic pathologist determined were non-accidental and beyond the capability of a young child. Beatty reportedly harbored resentment towards the children as they were fathered by another man. He had previously threatened to kill the children.
During a 911 call, Beatty suggested his autistic son had harmed the baby. Investigators noted inconsistencies in his accounts to police regarding the incident. Beatty was arrested on September 16, a month after the infant's death.
Despite defense arguments for release, a judge denied pretrial release due to Beatty's prior probation violation. The living conditions in the apartment were described as filthy, with concerns for other children in the home also noted. The D.C. Child and Family Services Agency has taken custody of the four surviving children.
