Julius Williamson Jr., facing charges for the alleged murder of a local high school student at the RTA Hub, has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. The indictment includes counts of murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and weapons charges.
Williamson is accused of fatally shooting 18-year-old Alfred Hale III on April 4, 2025. Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at 27 S. Jefferson Street, where they found Hale with a chest wound. He was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation indicated that Williamson and Hale, a student at Dunbar High School, had an altercation outside a carry-out establishment. Williamson allegedly drew a weapon and fired at Hale, subsequently fleeing the scene and discarding the firearm. The weapon was later recovered and identified as stolen.
Prosecutors noted Williamson's prior convictions for aggravated assault and drug possession. He had been released from prison less than two months prior to the shooting and was under post-release supervision. A court appearance is scheduled for March 18.
The incident has generated significant concern regarding student safety on RTA buses and at the RTA Hub, influencing changes in state law and a lawsuit involving the Dayton Public School District and the state.
